In the Air in a Kittyhawk

Just a cool video by Dave Hadfield flying the Vintage Wings P-40.  Almost like you are in the cockpit.

War Birds

This week Vintage Wings of Canada posted a great story about the Royal Air Force Pigeon Service, specifically with regard to a 42 Squadron Beaufort op. This reminded me of the new, and much maligned Miniart 1/35 scale pigeons and the new Airfix 1/72 Bristol Beaufort. Wouldn't that make a neat project, Beaufort L9965 with a pigeon on the wing?

Now the problem is do I hope for Miniart to scale down the pigeons to 1/72 or wish for an Airfix 1/32 or 1/35 Beaufort...

Spitfire APR

I've been spending most of the morning trying to finish up my Spitfire APR.  The white winter camouflage is turning out to a little more difficult than I hoped...

If you don't know about the RCAF's use of the Spitfire APR visit Vintage Wings for the full story. Once again Evad has done a great job telling the story of this previously unknown piece of RCAF history.  ; )

F/O Bundy Part 2

Part Two of the Allan Bundy story has been published by Vintage Wings of Canada. Terry Higgins of Aviaeology did an great job of recounting Allan Bundy's ops with 404 Squadron. By coincidence I just got Aviaeology's reissued and improved 404 Squadron Beaufighter decals last week. Look for a review soon.

Flying Officer Allan Bundy

I'm really excited, and honored, to see something I wrote published as part of Vintage Wings of Canada's Vintage News. This started out as a small article that was hugely improved by collaboration with three other authors.

RCAF MiG-21 Redhawks

After many years, the story can finally be told. Enjoy.

Modeler's Note: When it comes to the MiG-21F in 1/72 really the only option is the Revell AG kit. Thankfully it is excellent and the easiest way to build a CF-121 Redhawk.

Royal Newfoundland Air Force Fokker

Vintage Wings always has some nice aviation history and stories on their site, but it is rare that they focus on modeling. I will have to admit I'm a little jealous over that Fokker, because I would love to have a model from the RNAF in my collection. Sadly no one has done a 1/72 Budd Conestoga yet...
