When the Devil Came...he was Chrome

For many, a good chrome paint is the Holy Grail of scale modelling.  (Hold on, was the grail chrome?)  Anyway, as a total Tamiya LP11 fan, I was excited to read, I think on Spencer Pollard's Kit Box, that Tamiya had a chrome hidden in its Lacquer Painto line.  So I picked up a jar of LP48 "Sparking Silver."  And, as usual, I did nothing with it.

But here we are in 2026 with some Beskar armor to paint, so I finally got it in the airbrush.  My 1/48 Mando was primed in Mister Sur-Face-Er Black and then hit with the LP48.  Not bad, I think.  (I haven't tried to mask it, so no warranties it will hold up to tape, but Mando don't need no masking.)

P.S.:  No I'm not inferring that Din Djarin is the devil, it's a song lyric.  Anyone know which artist?

Negative Ghostrider, the Pattern is Full

I had every intention to start the Tamiya 1/72 F-14D as my first new project of the New Year.  But this is the way...

2026 is the year I renew my commitments to the hobby.  For many reasons, 2025 was a lost year in scale modeling.  Major changes in my professional life that took up too much time and energy and left me exhausted.  Thankfully, work seems to be getting on track.  But it wasn't all bad, I got to a few airshows, museums, and enjoyed cheering on the Mariners and Habs last year.

I got challenged on FB to build more models than aircraft I sit in this year.  It will be interesting to see if I can meet that challenge!

That's No Moon!

Finished up the Bandai 1/2700000 Death Star last night. (Ok, it could just be a hard ball...) As expected the kit is really nice and goes together with no problems. Finish is Tamiya LP37 Light Ghost Grey, some dry brushing of AK Third Gen English Grey, with a wash of Ammo-MiG Starship Filth.  So Falcon or Blockade runner next?

May the 4th be with you...

In early January...January 4, 2020...to be exact, I finished a model. Remember those days, so, so, long ago? I had high hopes for 2020, and even a delusion of finishing 52 models. So, yea, that didn't happen! COVID-19 took over and now it is May... (And don't even ask, why a model finished in January was not posted in January...) But in honor of "Star Wars Day," why not take look at that model?

The Bandai Star Destroyer comes both in its own boxing and a dual combo with a Death Star. (Which is where my kit originates.) Bandai says it is 1/14,500 scale, so a nice break from my usual 1/72.

As with all Bandai Star Wars kits, the molding is beautiful, the fit pretty good, and engineering such that it is an easy build. (They also have a pretty low part count as well.) The Dorito didn't take too long to build or paint and weather.  Paint was a Vallejo Model Air white grey and the Destroyer was weathered with Mig Oilbrusher Starship Filth. (Come one, what else would one use?)

I enjoyed this tiny Star Wars kit, and have a Death Star, Snow Speeder, Blockade Runner, and a Millennium Falcon next time I need a break from big 1/72 airplanes.
